MARY GUINNESS
GARDEN & LANDSCAPE DESIGN
Garden & Landscape Designer at Ann-Marie Powell Gardens
ABOUT ME
After 10 years practising as a solicitor specialising in intellectual property, and seeing my clients have all the creative fun, I knew I wanted to do more. I had just bought my own flat in London and rediscovered my love of gardens when I started redesigning my own tiny patch of outside space. Turning a weed-infested derelict site into somewhere I could relax and entertain friends was a great experience and I knew I had found what I was looking for.
Whilst still practising as a lawyer, I studied at Ryton Organic Gardens (the home of Garden Organic, one of the UK's leading organic growing charities) and under their expert tutelage, I obtained my RHS Certificate in Practical Horticulture (Level 2).
There was no going back, and I decided to make the full leap from law to Garden Design. I spent a year studying Garden Design at Hampton Court Palace with KLC School of Design, passing with Distinction and winning two out of seven awards one for residential garden design and the other for construction. It was a relief to discover that I didn't just love garden design, but I might actually be able to do it too!
I now work full time as a Garden & Landscape Designer at Ann-Marie Powell Gardens in Petersfield, on the Sussex, Hampshire border at the edge of the stunning South Downs. I work on projects of all sizes from small residential courtyard gardens and roof terraces, or even small balconies, to designing public spaces of several acres in size; and from simple advice on how you can 'lift' your existing space with the right plants and small tweaks to the layout, to full redesign. I will help you find the right landscape contractor for your project and, where needed I can also project manage the build itself.
